Saturday, September 16, 7:30pm. Tonight contralto Vira Slywotzky and pianist Ana Glig will perform operatic arias along with classical and popular songs by George Frederic Handel, Gioachino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, Camille Saint-Saëns, Edward Elgar, Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, and others. Vira Slywotzky has performed principal roles with Seattle Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Chelsea Opera, Center for Contemporary Opera, Light Opera of New York, Sarasota Opera and Boston Midsummer Opera. She has sung recitals, concerts and cabarets in many of the major New York City venues and on tour all over the United States. Internationally Slywotzky has performed at the Hudson Music Festival in Hudson, CA, Festival D’Avignon in Avignon, FR, Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs and the American Church in Paris, FR, the Armel Opera Festival in Szeged, HU and the Gustov Adolf Church in Sundsvall, SE. The recipient of a 2007 Richard F. Gold Career Grant, Slywotzky has twice been a New England Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and in 2009 was the sole representative of the United States at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. Ana Glig (Gligvashvili) is an award-winning concert pianist praised for her “virtuosic command of works” and ability to “capture hearts” (Musical America). A recipient of the Alfred Cortot prize at the Tbilisi International Piano Competition for the best interpretation of romantic music, Glig has performed internationally in Europe and the United States in solo and chamber settings. As an orchestra soloist, Glig debuted with Georgian and Israeli symphonic orchestras. Ms. Glig recently performed with Cape Symphony in double piano under the baton of Jung-Ho Pak and was a guest soloist with Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra performing J. S. Bach’s D Minor Harpsichord Concerto. Ms. Glig has also appeared as a featured soloist at Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago. Glig’s album ‘Reminiscences’ Fanfare Magazine recognized Glig’s playing for its “ever sensitivity” and ability to finely capture some of Georgia’s haunting, elusive film melodies ..as well as anyone on disc. A native of Georgia, Glig’s first musical impressions trace back to her early childhood and to Georgian polyphonic singing. Glig’s passion for synthesis of classical music and art has led her to create annual multimedia concerts; MusArt Interconnections. Glig received her Master’s degree in piano performance from Mannes School of Music -The New School (NYC), an Advanced Certificate in piano performance and pedagogy from NewYork University (NYU Steinhardt) and a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Tbilisi State Conservatoire (Republic of Georgia). Her teachers include such distinguished pianist pedagogues as Victor Rosenbaum, Eteri Andjaparidze, Revaz Tavadze among others. As an adjunct faculty member at NYU Steinhardt, Glig taught private and group piano lessons. After moving from New York City, Glig now resides on Cape Cod, where she continues to perform, teach and work as a newly appointed Music Director at First United Methodist Church in Chatham.
