Name: Les Sampou & The Dirty Martinis
Date: August 4, 2018
Time: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
One of New England’s most beloved singer-songwriters, Les Sampou returns to the Cultural Center for an evening of popular music with her trio “The Dirty Martinis." A chameleon-like songwriter and vocalist of many styles, her original songs from her seven albums (Rounder Records) range from Blues to Rock to Folk, many of which have been featured in sound tracks for film and TV. Sampou's latest project showcases her three and a half octave range and fun, engaging stage presence on compositions from the American Songbook by such composers as Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington. The Dirty Martinis also have a select list of beloved modern hits such as Traffic’s “Low Spark of High Heeled Boys,” Lana Del Rey’s “West Coast,” and Steely Dan’s “Showbiz Kids” which are arranged to fit seamlessly with the classics of the Songbook. You’re in store for a truly inspiring night of music. The Dirty Martini Trio features Les on vocals and percussion, Ed Grenga on vocals and keys (Grenga is a composer and producer of many artist albums including the new album by Ray Greene (Tower of Power and Santana), advertising projects, PBS documentaries, and indie feature films), and Justin Meyer on stand-up bass (Meyer has a masters in music and has performed with the Indian Hill Symphony, Bucky Pizzarelli, The New Black Eagle Jazz Band, Toni Lynn Washington, and Chris Trapper). This all-star ensemble is not to miss. $25, $20 for members. Complimentary refreshments. Tickets at www.cultural-center.org or by calling 508-394-7100.
