Time:
9:30 AM - 4:30 PM EST
Event Description:
Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Wednesday, February 28, from 9:30am-4:30pm. In this all-day workshop, students will learn to design and build a fiber necklace using materials from your stash. We’ll use different handwork techniques to repurpose clothing, fabrics, novelty fibers, wire, beads, and found objects into enchanting charms. Add interest to your assemblage by including items from your junk drawer like old doll furniture, nuts and bolts, etc. Next, we’ll fashion a chain with wire, ribbons, and your own handspun cordage to attach your bobbles to. Techniques such as embroidering, beading, stuffing, wrapping, winding, and stitching will be covered. Plus, we will be weaving custom shapes on our homemade pin looms. In the final hour we will assemble with findings, and you will be able to wear your treasure home. There will be class demos and time to help each student work with their own personal collection of materials. We will view and discuss the work of other fiber jewelry artists as well. All levels welcome. No metalworking skills required. All techniques can be learned in class. $230. Register at www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100. The Cultural Center is located at 307 Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
