A Weekend in Italy as Inspired by the Tuscan Landscape with Ruth Davis and Chef Joe Cizynski

Tuscany is THE premier destination for incredible food, wine and art. Come celebrate a full weekend with us, with all this marvelous Italian destination has to offer! We will begin this Tuscan inspired weekend with a cooking class in our Culinary Arts Studio, Friday evening from 6-8pm. It has been said that whether or not someone is a romantic at heart or not, Venice promises to take one’s breath away. Venice must be experienced with all of one’s senses wide open! Venice, like every region of Italy, is known for its traditional food specialties. A visit to Venice offers an opportunity to discover fascinating gastronomic traditions. We will be tasting Harry's Bar Carpaccio, octopus braised in Valpolicella, guinea fowl with sauce peverade and finish with cheeses. Wines for the evening will be Soave, Prosecco, Valpolicella and Torcolato. Beginning at 9am on Saturday we will commence with painting the Tuscan landscape. If you are a painter or would-be painter, come immerse yourself in the beauty of the Italian landscape. Let's talk about color, shape and techniques to achieve the depth of Tuscan hills. A demonstration will be given in oil. All mediums and skill levels are welcome. If you want to try painting in oils, all materials will be provided for you. If you paint with watercolors or acrylics, join in with your own materials. Lunch will be provided at noon. And finally on Sunday we will go over our works with an Italian brunch, Tuscan style. Poached eggs over cannelinni bean ragout with gremolta, ricotta pancakes with a fig and orange compote, wild boar sausages, assorted pastries, vegetable frittatas, and fresh juices. Friday evening will meet in the Culinary Arts Studio, Saturday and Sunday will meet in the Owl Hall. Both studios are on the main level of the Education Wing.
