Name: 2nd Annual "Piggy Roast"
Date: September 22, 2018
Time: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope is hosting a fundraising event on Saturday, September 22, 2018 to support our “Shade the Cape” initiative to promote local sun safety and tanning awareness, to provide funds for local families in need, and to advance melanoma research. The 2nd Annual Piggy Roast is a family friendly event that will be held at Flax Pond recreational facility in Yarmouth, MA, and will feature lawn games, a gourmet pig roast barbeque, fundraising auction and raffle all while enjoying live music from local musicians. Tickets will be reasonably priced for adults and children and will be available to purchase on our website www.glennasfund.org. The Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2009 with the mission to carry on Glenna’s work to bring awareness to everyone about the dangers of melanoma and the importance of early detection and prevention. Glenna’s story is so compelling that it was featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine about safe sun practices (http://glennasfund.org/pdfs/cosmo_article.pdf). Proceeds from the event are earmarked to install two or more community shade structures in towns on the Cape and provide sunscreen dispensers to the public for use. Glenna was 26 when she passed away from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Melanoma is being diagnosed at a rate faster than any other cancer and of all the counties in Massachusetts, Barnstable County has the second highest number of melanoma diagnoses.
